Minister Dave Umahi Expresses Discontent with East-West Road Project Contractors

In a recent development, the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has voiced serious concerns over the handling of the East-West Road project by contractors.

Following an inspection of the road on Wednesday, September 20, Umahi expressed dismay over the road's condition, given the significant N71 billion invested in its rehabilitation by the Federal Government.

During his road trip from Abuja, passing through Kogi, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the minister personally witnessed the state of the highway. The inspection aimed to evaluate the progress of the ongoing work on the East-West Road.

Expressing his dissatisfaction, Umahi criticized the tactics employed by the contractors, specifically highlighting concerns related to overloading as a mere excuse. He unequivocally passed a vote of no confidence in the construction of the road, stating that he would not certify anything regarding its condition. He emphasized that the road had drastically deteriorated, despite the substantial funds allocated.

Addressing the company's representatives, Umahi demanded a meeting in Abuja to discuss the failures encountered in the project. He stressed the importance of proper road construction, declaring this an essential battle for the nation to ensure that Nigerians reap the benefits of a well-functioning democratic government.
